Weaving
Handmade and machine made. Woven rugs include both plain rugs (for example, rugs) and pile rugs. An authentic oriental rug is a handmade rug woven with or without pile knots. Oriental patterned rugs made by any method other than machine or hand knotting or hand-weaving are not considered authentic oriental rugs.

Braided rugs are made by sewing many small strips of fabric together into longer strips. Long strips are then knitted together, sewn at the ends, wrapped around them in a circular or oval pattern, and sewn together at the edges to hold them in a circular pattern.

The traditional rug hook is a craft in which rugs are made by pulling threads or loops of fabric from a rigid woven base such as burlap, linen, rug warp or monk’s cloth. The loops are pulled from the backing using a crochet-type hook mounted on a handle (usually wood) for leverage.

Rag rugs were commonly made in homes until the mid-20th century using odd scraps of fabric on old burlap floors.

You work from the back side of the pattern with the stapler tool, using strips of thread or fabric. Monk’s fabric support is stretched tightly against a frame. Each time you hit the needle down the backing, it creates a long thread on the right side of the rug. Then, when you lift the needle, it automatically turns the needle into a loop. These loops come together to form a rug so strong that chewing dogs and clawing cats are its only enemies. As long as you use the tool correctly, it will automatically make all the loops the same length.
Sometimes referred to as “quick hooking,” this rug hooking method is loved for its ease and speed. One student described it as “instant gratification with wool”.
prodded
Proddy rugs, as the name suggests, are made by poking or poking strips of burlap or linen fabric from the back side. Cloth rugs made in this way have many names; Clippies, proddies, stobbies, pins and in Scotland they are called cloth mats. Often made for more utilitarian uses such as the back door; piles hide dirt well.
